A business dedicated to a sustainable future...

The environment matters. N&C Nicobond are committed to a continuous programme of improvement in this important area of business. We have an environmental committee which meets regularly to access our performance and levels of progress. We train all our people to be environmentally aware in the workplace as we can all make a difference on a daily basis.

As manufacturers and distributors, Nicholls & Clarke has made a corporate commitment to improving its environmental performance through an Environmental Policy. This will provide the framework for all our work, whether it is in relation to energy efficiency, sustainable waste management or sustainable transport. A committee (Environmental Committee) will implement this policy by developing programmes of work that constitute an Environmental Management System. The Environmental Committee will monitor the effectiveness of its policies and actions.

Together, we will promote the best use of environmental practice and more particularly Nicholls & Clarke will:-

  • Continuously improve environmental performance
  • Reduce consumption of resources
  • Measure and take action to reduce the carbon footprint of business activities
  • Ensure environmental criteria are taken into account in the procurement of goods and services
  • Encourage staff involvement in environmental issues
  • Expect similar environmental standards from all business partners
  • Meet or exceed all environmental legislation that relates to the business

To meet these commitments Nicholls & Clarke will:-

  • Set and monitor strategic objectives and targets for managing environmental performance
  • Communicate internally and externally this commitment and environmental performance
  • Work together with staff and business partners to promote improved environmental performance
  • Review the environmental policy regularly

International Standards – Achieving ISO14001

With the growing demand for products to be sourced from more eco-friendly production, a high volume of carbon dioxide emissions have been considerably reduced, as a result of the new procedures in place to effectively tackle climate change and the negative effects on the environment, continually advocating the prudent use of natural resources. These processes have lead to the accreditation of ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management systems (EMS). This achievement ensures that our customers are benefiting by proving the products are sourced from an ISO 14001 company.

"Through controlling our CO2 emissions, our customers benefit by sourcing their products from a responsible manufacturer. We have recognised the importance of the environment on future generations and proactively work towards reducing the environmental impact within our manufacturing processes."

David Forbes, Chairman, Nicholls & Clarke.

Carbon Footprint

Our manufacturing processes, buildings, delivery and travel policies are monitored continuously which has already reduced our carbonemissions.

Product Development

Our Chemists consider the impact a new product will have on the environment. We work hard to develop low impact formulations that still give the specifier, professional tiling or screeding contractor the performance and handling characteristics they require.

Logistics

We own and operate a private fleet of low carbon commercial vehicles. Our transport managers hold a ‘Certificate of Professional Competence’ and ensure that we use our fleet efficiently using efficient routing and maximising vehicle capacity.

Social Responsibility

We believe that a sustainable and responsible business will ultimately become a more successful one. We respect the local communities we operate in and work closely with them ensuring we minimise our impact on them. We support a national charity that works in the local communities to our branches providing disadvantaged children with vital equipment.

Raw Materials

The vast majority of our raw materials are sourced locally to our factory in Stoke-on-Trent. We evaluate each raw material supplier’s credentials and ensure that we select low carbon partners.

Low Carbon Manufacturing

We continue to invest in the latest low carbon manufacturing equipment. We make use of grey water technology, solar panels & low energy lighting systems. All our products have low VOC’s.

Energy Saving

Our aim is to keep our energy consumption to a minimum and to use the greenest sources wherever possible.

Packaging

Wherever possible we make use of packaging with a recycled content. Certain products like ‘Ecoflex’ use unbleached naturally coloured packaging.

Recycling

Pallets are repaired and reused internally to reduce our consumption of wood. Pallets beyond repair are sent to be recycled rather than being land filled. We also recycle plastic, paper and cardboard.

Waste Reduction

The latest manufacturing techniques and the use of grey water technologies have reduced the amount of waste our manufacturing facilities create.

Carbon Offsetting

N&C Nicobond supports a carbon offsetting program designed to benefit the environment through delivering reliable emission reductions through products such as Ecoflex adhesive.
